This is a poster for Gavin and I's largest film, Best FriENDs 4: Clinically END-sane. I used several selection masks to cut out the characters and clipping masks to add gradient fades to them in order to make the poster more cohesive. I also made the entire poster exclusively red, black, and white to fit with the aesthetic of the film.
I used the black and white layer with a blue filter to make all of the animals look like they go together, and blue is a relaxing color, most of the animals seem relaxed. Three of the four are looking at you, the viewer, while the squirrel is facing to the side. It is because of that I applied a tile filter to break up the image of the squirrel and cause more visual difference. There is a color balance and hue/saturation filter as well that works to subtly flatten the colors.
In this assignment, I learned about the resolution of images and how that interacts with ppi, how to do more in depth cropping to fit the project you are making, the copy merge tool, and the artistic selection of some of the images with the rule of thirds.
In this project, I took some creativity with filters on the left and right images, and did some selection masks in order to get the Kodak border to look good around the photo and to fit the Hollywood sign in the lens of the camera I was operating.
This project was a test drive of Photoshop's selection tools and helped push me out of my comfort zone of always using the Quick Selection Tool. It was a great reminder of the various useful ways you can cut out an image with Photoshop
This was my first time creating something from scratch with the Photoshop painting tools. The biggest problem I encountered was covering up the back layers while also keeping the texture of the foreground layer. The bet way to do this, I found, was by using multiple colors in order to keep the textures visible and the backgrounds covered.
In this assignment, we used layer masks to cut out different animals and adjusted settings such as brightness and contrast to make them better match the background. I chose the sparrow because I really like sparrows and I chose the porcupine because they're silly little guys and it looked like it would be harder. It was. I had to use color selection setitngs as well as the regular edge refinement tools to make it look good, but I'm overall proud with the result.
